While operating a small marina named Trade Winds Marina in Nebraska in the mid 90s, I realized I was spending hard earned dollars and endless amounts of time repairing my boat docks and slips. Dock maintenance was not only getting expensive, it was also never-ending. It seemed that as soon as I repaired a section of dock, a bad storm or rough winter would tear it apart again. Broken welds, rotting boards and leaking barrels were getting the best of me.
I started to research floating dock companies and was about to place an order with a company out of the Midwest. On a cold winter Saturday morning, I was finalizing my list of items I was going to order on Monday morning from the dock company. Around noon I took a break from the tedious task of figuring exactly what I needed to replace a section of 30 rental slips. I walked out to my mailbox and found a mailing from a new line of floating docks called EZ Dock.
This was a small new company that only had one or two Distributors in the country selling them. The mailing was a small simple brochure that was mailed out to marinas like mine throughout the country. I studied it over and over, thinking something had to be wrong or missing. It looked too easy and effortless to not only decide what I would need to replace my 30 battered slips, but how easy it would be to install them. Then I had to wonder if these plastic looking docks could
withstand the forces of nature.
Monday morning rolled around and I was expected to make a call to that Midwest dock company with a dock order. Instead I called the guys at EZ Dock, had a conversation and placed an order with them. I had the docks shipped to me within two weeks and installed in two days. Not only did two of us do 100% of the labor, we also had a $10,000 savings over the other brand.
After a few months, not only were my boat slip s fully rented with satisfied customers, but tons of people who had seen my new docks were asking where they could get some for themselves. Well, that was the beginning of a whole new story and a new business venture. A year or two later we sold that marina for a considerable profit and went into the dock business full time. Trade Winds Distributing Inc. was born and now has a network of Dealers across Nebraska,
Kansas, Oklahoma and Missouri. Step back, evaluate what you have or need in a floating dock, then call and let us help you. You will find EZ Dock and its full line of marine accessories are as right for you as they were for me.
